Last week, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security issued new guidance allowing federal immigration officers to enforce immigration laws near sensitive areas, including schools, which were previously considered off-limits. The Gooding School District recognizes that this change may be a concern for many in our community, and we want to assure you that we are aware of this policy update.
Please rest assured that the Gooding School District:
- Remains committed to providing a safe and welcoming learning environment for all
- Will continue to uphold the laws guaranteeing that ALL children in the United States have the right to a free and appropriate public education.
- Does NOT collect or share information about the immigration status of our students or their families.
- Encourages parents/guardians to ensure their contact and emergency information is accurate and up to date.
- Emergency contacts can include family members or a trusted adult designated by the parent or guardian.
- To update this information, please contact your child’s school secretary or log in to your PowerSchool account.
- Will have counselors available at our schools to support students who may experience anxiety, stress, or fears related to changes in federal immigration enforcement
