Growing Local: Seed to Supper & the Child Nutrition Grant

The Seed to Supper Dinner is one component of a $150,000, three-year grant awarded to the Gooding Child Nutrition Program to increase the use of locally grown foods in school meals. As part of the grant, we partnered with the Gooding Farmer’s Market to create a sustainable, recurring event that connects students, staff, local growers, and community members.

Since receiving funding, we have been able to:

  • Provide hands-on culinary training for staff, building skills in food preparation and nutrition

  • Offer professional development opportunities for our Child Nutrition team

  • Equip our high school Senator StrEAT Market & Bistro with signage and materials to enhance the dining experience

  • Organize an educational event promoting local agriculture in partnership with the community

  • Secure Funding for tower gardens at our elementary and middle schools, allowing students to see their food grow for  the school nutrition program

This grant initiative combines education, sustainability, and community collaboration, creating meaningful experiences for students, supporting local farmers, and building a foundation for future programs and events that celebrate local food

This year’s Seed to Supper Dinner is made possible through this grant. Proceeds from ticket sales will help support its future, making it a sustainable, ongoing community event
