GOODING, Idaho (KMVT/KSVT) — A local principal was awarded Idaho’s 2026 Distinguished Principal Award.

Gooding Elementary Principal Brandee Sabala has spent her entire career working for the Gooding School District.

“This is my 10th year as principal, prior to that I served as the Director for both elementary and middle school Vice Principal of Federal Programs for the District. And then I taught in the elementary school for 7 years,” Sabala said.

Now her hard work is being recognized after her superintendent and other staff members nominated her for the Distinguished Principal Award.

This led to the Idaho Association of School Administrators reaching out to Sabala and ultimately choosing her in recognition of her work with students.

“I always try to keep in mind that as a school principal I want to create a safe and loving environment that all students can thrive and grow and be at their best,” Sabala said.

She was also commended for the culture she’s created with the staff, where they feel safe and part of a community.

Gooding School District Superintendent David Carson said he and the staff are glad she received the award.

“We’re very excited about that, proud of her and the school that she oversees and has helped build here and her staff and the students and parents and community so it’s very exciting for us,” Superintendent Carson said.

Sabala said she’s humble about receiving this honor.

“It’s honoring our students, our staff, the community that we serve and so it’s really exciting to have that spotlight on everyone,” Sabala said.

Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield will be at a district assembly on Feb. 23 to honor Sabala. Then she will go to Washington, D.C., as a nominee for a national award in October.
